Description
Anything with a hint of prog I usually like. “In a Coma…” has traces that made me think of comparisons to a bands like Muse and V.A.S.T. while Paulo compared it to the likes of Mew. Either way, they are complimenting comparisons.
I heavily recommend it if you’re tired of suffering from the Top 40 Blues. 10/10 (Gamma-Wave Rhythm Review)
Christy Somos, Velvet Rope Magazine
V… an impressive album that fans of artsy rock (i.e. Radiohead, not Rush) will love.
the band blurs the lines between sounds and styles—sometimes folksy, sometimes electronic but always with a distinct signature that says “5th Projekt was here.” 4.5/5
Adam A. Donaldson, Lucid Forge
5th Projekt is another example of why I thank God that Canadians make music.
Despite all the virtuosity on display, no one musician stole the scene; the band’s “cinematic” sound relies on combining the available textures into one cohesive wall of sound. (Live review)
Brad Koegler, The Ontarion
Unbelievably talented, I would imagine the Illuminati assembled 5th Projekt!
Jeremiah Simmons, The Dabs
5th Projekt is easily one of the most relevant indie bands in Canada.
Dave Thompson (Producer)

V is a stark and dark reflection of modern times and quite possibly the most sonically ambitious album to come out of a Toronto band in years
one of the Toronto scene’s most sonically ambitious acts
It’s pure sex for the ears… 10/10 (V review)
The Tales of Don Quixote is a genuine treat, full of nuances and subtleties to please the most discriminating music lover. 4/5
Adam A. Donaldson, Lucid Forge
If Portishead and Russian Circles got together it might sound like 5th PROJEKT.
You’ll be hanging on to each and every hallucinogenic note.
The music actually speaks for itself and instantaneously draws you in. I was impressed by 5th PROJEKT’s thick and lush “orchestration” and distinctively poetic lyrics.
Dr. Liesa Norman, Sugarcain
5th PROJEKT has effectively evaded both classification and comparison
Leigh Johnson, The Martlet
Interesting, memorable and evocative.
The four-piece group has a sound that is best described as cinematic; giving new meaning to the term ‘mood music,’ 5th PROJEKT creates rich atmospheric music that is both evocative and incredibly dramatic.
Ann Hui, The Ubyssey
The songs of ‘V’ are cathartic and compelling. Listen to the album when you can just close your eyes and relax, and focus on the music, let it do with you as it will. (Best of 2011)
5th PROJEKT is actually the hardest working band I’ve run across in my 10 years of observing indie music in Canada. Hand made albums, diligent self promotion, sticking to it for the love. much respect for that.
Don Quixote is a dreamy, wandering album that if personified would believe in ghostly spirits, lucid dreaming, and the power of the mind over the physical.
Jaclyn Arndt, Soul Shine
Electrifyingly original.
Lonely Vagabond
epic, intricate songs that both blast your eardrums and soothe your nerves.
Beautifully haunting vocals meshed with swirly rock soundscapes that coalesce to form music of piercing, atmospheric beauty.
Lonely Vagabond
Haunting.
Karen Bliss, Canadian Musician
I would go as far to say that this is some of the best music I have heard to date. I cannot wait for more by 5th Projekt and can only hope that they excel in the future. (CiRCADiAN review)
Mac Bernard, The Brock Press
a guitar-heavy environment found somewhere at the intersection of grunge, Far East-influenced world music, and technopop. 3.5/4 (CiRCADiAN review)
David Taylor, Progression
Quite unlike anything I’ve heard lately, and that is a good thing.
I heavily recommend it if you’re tired of suffering from the Top 40 Blues. 10/10
Christy Somos, Velvet Rope Magazine
Smooth sounds and heart wrenching vocals.
Mica, Pink Mafia
Though they profess to be “Pioneers of Neo-Classical Romanticism”, don’t be fooled into thinking that 5th Projekt always takes itself too seriously: the extremes of comedy and tragedy, light and dark, are found at every turn.
E. Garland, Soundcheck Magazine
All these influences combine to make 5th Projekt’s unique sound- a simple yet profoundly moving sound that is fluid, epic, haunting and memorable.
Overall the combination of both progressive and classic instrumentation on Circadian stands up to repeated listens – a world where atmospheric guitar sounds meld with tribal drums, keys, electronics and skilled vocals.
Amanda Terfloth, Toronto Indie
5th Projekt’s V… is one of the best records to come out of the Canadian indie scene in a long time.
One great kaleidoscopic orgy of sound.
conveying a new sound and a new way of doing things.
Vanessa Gallant, HERE Magazine
They live in the spaces between “Kid A”-era, Radiohead, big-sounding bands like The Music and the trip-hoppy bands like Portishead.
Alan Cross, Explore Music
From the dreamy opening first track “In a Coma,” you will be mesmerized by the luscious beauty of Tara Rice’s vocals. (Circadian Review)
Charmaine Merchant, The Spill
With dramatic dynamics, exotic sounds, and intriguing atmospheres all blending into the songs, it goes a long way to setting 5th Projekt apart from most other alt-rock bands out there.
Jeff Fitzgerald, Aural Innovations
pure sex for the ears…
one cohesive wall of sound. (Live review)
Brad Koegler, The Ontarion
a band who clearly have the capability to evoke both euphoria and despair via their anthemic songs.
Jonathan Leonard, Leonard's Lair (UK)
Circadian is not a cd to really pick and chose songs from. I play this disc from beginning to end. Every track has the same amount of plays in my iTunes. Listening to Circadian is an hour commitment you’ll re-visit many times after purchase.
Mike Bax, Fazer Magazine
5th PROJEKT has created a style of music that is part goth, part folk, part drama and part spiritual. It is the kind of music that you can imagine Shakespeare’s tragedies being played to, containing lyrics that would please Silvia Plath.
Julie Hunter, Tangible Sounds
5th PROJEKT’s music is nothing if not eclectic
Cameron Gordon, Chart
Majestic, raw, laced with a hauntingly sweet atmosphere that lets the light shine through.
Lonely Vagabond
5th Projekt isn’t a band you listen to. 5th Projekt is a band you experience.
This is not music to play softly in the privacy of your own room. This is music to share. Loudly and from the rooftops.
Neal Moogk-Soulis, Imprint
